The following Acts and Regulations are administered by the Commission:

The Electoral Act and Electoral Regulations under that Act, outline the legislative framework to be followed for the conduct of elections for members of the Northern Territory  Legislative Assembly, for carrying out redistributions of electoral boundaries, the registration of political parties, maintenance of a financial disclosure framework and matters relating to judicial appeals, electoral offences and the administration of the Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC).  

The Referendums Act 1998  and Referendums Regulations, outline the legislative framework to be followed for the conduct of referenda approved by the Legislative Assembly. 

The Northern Territory (Self-Government) Act 1978 Part 3 sections 13 to 21 and the Northern Territory (Self-Government) Regulations outline the constitution of and membership criteria for the Legislative Assembly, including the qualifications of electors and members.
